《Seven tales, Sculptures, and Gold seekers》
storybook, sculptures, and audience participation | 2024
"Seven tales, Sculptures, and Gold seekers" is a multi-faceted artwork combining a storybook, sculptures, and audience participation. Drawing from the historical figures, events, locations, and objects of Jinguashi (A town with gold mining history), the artist has written seven short stories, each inspired by these elements. From these narratives, seven small gold-cast sculptures were created. These golden sculptures were hidden in the Jinguashi area during an arts festival, inviting participants to decipher the metaphors within the stories to locate and claim these unique pieces.
The collection of seven stories, titled "He Never Left the Hillside but Just Changed the Pose", conceals clues to the sculptures' hiding spots. The artist gathered a wealth of historical records, memoirs, cultural research, online information, and oral histories from the region to craft these surrealist narratives. These stories reinterpret the complex historical context of Jinguashi, weaving together themes of human and mineral interactions, war, industry, and colonial history. Each story serves as the foundation for a sculpture, whose design embodies the symbolic and visual essence of its narrative. Cast in gold, these mythic sculptures reflect the enduring legacy of Jinguashi's gold mining history.
The gold sculptures were designed using 3D modeling, with resin-based 3D prints serving as the original molds for the final gold castings. Each piece measures approximately 15mm to 25mm in size.
